The Institute proposes, among others, the following goals, that constitutes its foundational aims:
- Facilitate the creation of high critical mass teams that are capable of tackling broad ranging, competitive and complete R+D work that are useful from an economic and social point of view.
- Carry out a clear scientific policy, concentrating food R+D of the Community of Madrid (CM) on some specific lines that boost the competitiveness of the Madrid food industry and which, by means of this, may be transferred to society in the form of progress that improves the quality of life of the population regarding food.
- Effectively transfer R+D results for their use. Increase the rate of issuing patent licenses to companies.
- Creation of a business incubator.
- Improve the scientific level of original research articles published in the CM, keeping (or if possible increasing) their number and impact index.
- Increase the number of international patents presented in the CM.
- Support public administrations on the quality and safety of food.
- Constitute a reference for specialised training at university postgraduate level and continuous training for the productive sector.
- Improve the activity of the food industry and services to the citizen in the CM.
- Contribute to improving the image of the CM as a nucleus of top quality and high-technology research.
