Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computation arise in every aspect of industry: from aircraft, automobile or engine designe and construction to the development of computers, communication systems and new drugs. Inspired by this vision (Mathematics playing an important role in science and technology), the Madrid Regional Government has set up IMDEA Mathematics as a Center for Advanced Sudy in Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computation, born with the aim to become an international reference in the field.

For the scientific organization, three main “Scientific Platforms” have been identified, whose purpose is to serve as a framework for the present and future researchers in IMDEA Mathematics to provide them with the freedom and flexibility necessary to place their research within a clear, stable scientific structure. The character of the Scientific Platforms is not a excluding one, and their usefulness is to identify and distinguish the type of research and the objectives of every line of work.

To meet the goal of setting up a unique cross-disciplinary environment within Mathematics, Engineering and Science, three “Scientific Platforms” will be created:

SP 1. Fundamental Mathematics for the Natural Sciences

SP 2. Matemátics Applied to Technology, Engineering and Society

SP 3. Computacional Mathematics

These “Scientific Platforms”, constant in time, will host the different “Research Lines”, the “Prospective Research Lines” and the “Special Actions”. More info about those can be found here:
