2nd Summer Workshop on Economic Theory (10/02/2008 Source: IMDEA)

SWET-Madrid is a debating forum with annual periodicity. Its purpose is to present and discuss frontier-of-knowledge research in Economic Theory. Each year a different issue of discussion is carefully chosen both to accommodate ongoing research at the organizing institutions (IMDEA Social Sciences, CEMFI and UCIII), and to attract internationally renowned scholars working on the same theme. The topic chosen for 2008 will be "New Approaches to Mechanism Design".

The importance of this issue, both in terms of conceptual relevance and practical applications, has been remarked in recent years. It is the theoretical and practical relevance of the topic that led the Swedish academy to award the 2007 Nobel Prize for Economics to Leo Hurwicz, Roger Myerson y Eric Maskin, for their significant contributions in this area. Professor Maskin, who will participate in the discussion sessions, will also give a public lecture on "Mechanism Design and Implementation".

A first project dealt with "Trusts", a second with "Arbitration and Conflict-solving". In addition, CLEF facilitates exchanges among Law & Economics scholars, in particular by inviting promising scholars to present papers at its meetings.
