Diego Puga, Research Professor at IMDEA Social Sciences, has been awarded the 2008 Fundación Banco Herrero Prize. The Prize is given annually to a Spanish researcher under the age of 40 for his or her outstanding contributions to the fields of economics, business or social studies. Dr Puga receives the prize for his contributions to economic geography, urban economics and international trade. For more information, download PDF (37 KB).

IMDEA Social Sciences welcomes two new fist-class scientists to its faculty: Dr Luisa Fuster and Dr Andrés Erosa. Dr Fuster is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto. She earned her PhD in economics from UAB in 1994 and subsequently was a Postdoctoral Fulbright Fellow at the University of Minnesota. Fore more information, download PDF (78 KB). Dr. Erosa is a tenured Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto. Born in Uruguay, where he completed his undergraduate degree in Economics, Dr. Erosa earned his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Minnesota in 1996. As of January 1, 2008 IMDEA Social Sciences has joined the “Madrid International Financial Center Association,” whose purpose is to promote the Autonomous Community of Madrid as an international center of excellence in the market for financial services. Several prestigious institutions, including BBVA, Banco Santander, Bolsa y Mercados Españoles, Mapfre, IMADE and Instituto de Empresa, among others, also belong to the Association. The institutional representation of IMDEA Social Sciences in the Association’s General Assembly will be held by Fernando Amigo, the Institute’s General Manager. Dr José Marín, Research Professor of Finance, will lead a number of research teams in charge of the study of hedge funds and the promotion of Madrid as a center for the analysis of Spain and Latin America’s financial markets.
