Welcome to the March 2010 edition of the IMDEA Food Newsletter. This is the first edition of the Newsletter, which is distributed quarterly to provide information and research achivements emerging from IMDEA Food.

The Audit of the European Project CARMEN (CARrrier grade MEsh Networks) conducted in Madrid on March 3rd and 4th has been concluded with excellent results. Testbed demonstrations and presentations won the approval of European Commission reviewers present for their successful account of the project’s research objectives.

This system is more environmental friendly and cheaper than the traditional catalysts based on noble metals used on hydrogenation reactions for fine chemistry. The high interest of this work has been emphasized by the editorial board of the prestigious Journal ChemCatChem (Willey) who has awarded it with the February cover picture.
