PLACING MADRID AMONG THE KNOWLEDGE-GENERATING REGIONS, NEEDS A BALANCE BETWEEN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE INITIATIVES

  • Scientific development requires public and private funds and a certain balance between them.
  • In the United States and Japan, this balance exists but in Europe and in Spain it does not.
    • In Europe and Spain public financing and intervention may have been excessive while private funding has been too scarce.
  • In Spain the results have improved by creating a fund management system.

The Autonomous Community of Madrid wants to:

  • Create an institutional framework that combines public support to science and that stimulates the participation of all social agents.
  • Achieve a balance between public and private financing.
  • Adjust research towards market demands, encouraging the private sector to participate in the design and funding of a new science scheme.

For our well-being and sustainable development, to improve the competitiveness of our companies.
