The main mission of the Institute is to perform research of excellence at the highest international level, to collaborate with similar institutions worldwide, to create critical mass and to attract world-wide top class researchers.

IMDEA Software address several scientific challenges in the software development technologies area. The software market moves around 200 M €, 1/3 in Europe and it is considered one of the main sources of economic growth. Software systems are present in our daily life, controlling important aspects of it: banking systems, communications, transport, medicine, public administration, and so on.. Software is becoming more and more complex, more expensive to produce, and much more difficult to ensure its correctness.

As a result, software reliability, quality, security, and performance become fundamental aspects of mainstream software applications which vendors will eventually have to guarantee. It will gradually happen that these characteristics will change from being a competitive advantage to be a requirement of the legal market for the suppliers.

In order to satisfy these needs it is necessary to provide software developers with trustworthy and efficient foundations, techniques, and tools that allow them to write functional, reliable, and efficient software. The knowledge and development of these technologies constitute the main scientific objective of the Institute, articulated through a series of research lines.
