Energy R&D activities requires a multidisciplinary approach for being successful. The involvement and joint collaboration of experts from a large variety of fields (physics, chemists, engineers, geologists, biologists, etc.) is necessary in most of the research energy topics currently in progress. Moreover, the connection between new energy technologies and nanoscience has become evident in recent years. The progress in the development of many new energy processes depends strongly on the design and preparation of nanomaterials having unique properties for energy production, storage and transport.

Collaboration with industries is essential to transfer and applied the results of the R&D activities to a commercial scale. In this way, the IMDEA Energy Institute will consider as one of its priorities to establish strong links with energy companies. The research activity to be carried out will be, in a large extension, performed in collaboration with industries. Accordingly, the Institute will have both scientific and technological orientations. It is hoped that the involvement of the industrial sector in the IMDEA Energy Institute will be promoted by the fact that most of the Spanish companies of the energy sector possess facilities located in “Comunidad de Madrid”.
