IMDEA NANOSCIENCE is a Foundation created by a joint institutional initiative of the regional Government of the Community of Madrid and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Government of Spain, to manage the Madrid Institute of Advanced Research in Nanoscience. The Foundation counts with the participation and support of Universities and relevant Research Institutions in this region, which are interested in promoting the development of new interdisciplinary activities in research, formation and technology transfer in Nanoscience, Nanotechnology and Molecular Design, as well as in the use of common, competitive infrastructures and, especially, in the creation of a suitable environment to repatriate, attract and recruit researchers of international excellence.

The IMDEA-Nanoscience Foundation aims at creating and supporting new research groups by putting together some of the groups of excellence in the Community of Madrid in different scientific areas with researchers attracted from relevant international institutions elsewhere. The Institute will ensure the effective collaboration between these groups, creating new teams of excellence able to tackle some of the relevant scientific problems in Nanoscience.

The existence of the Institute will allow to reach an internationally competitive, critical mass in selected research areas, to carry out ambitious interdisciplinary research programmes that surpass the capacity of groups or Institutes that already work in the region of Madrid, to train scientific and technical personnel and to contribute to the creation of new spin-off companies in these areas.
