Privacy Policy of the IMDEA Portal

The purpose of the present Privacy Policy is to inform about the general terms and conditions regarding the collection and treatment of personal data submitted through this Web site, http://www.imdea.org/. IMDEA, -Instituto Madrileño de Estudios Avanzados (Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies)-, aims to be the new institutional framework which combines public and private support for science in the Community of Madrid and directs research towards the demands of the market, encouraging the private sector to participate in the design of science. IMDEA currently consists of nine different Institutes divided according to their area of scientific specialization: WATER, FOOD, SOCIAL SCIENCES, ENERGY, MATHEMATICS, MATERIALS, NANOSCIENCE, NETWORKS and SOFTWARE.

IMDEA shall keep all Web site users informed of the conditions of use and treatment of personal data collected through the Web Page, by means of general information displayed in the present Privacy Policy, or in the specific electronic forms designed to collect personal data, in which detailed information will be provided as to how the data will be used and treated in each case.

In view of the above, and in compliance with Organic Law 15/1999 of 13 December on Personal Data Protection, and Law 34/2002 of 11 July on Services of the Information Society and Electronic Commerce, as well as related regulations regarding the protection of personal data, the following privacy conditions are established so that you, as users of the Web Page situated at URL: http://www.imdea.org/, shall be informed, at all times, of the privacy policy that shall be applied in the collection and treatment of personal data.

General Information and Aims

We inform you that, in compliance with Organic Law 15/1999 of 13 December on Personal Data Protection, the data collected through the present portal, shall form part of an automatic log file, which shall be the responsibility of the Institute, as an independent foundational entity, to which the personal data is submitted and where it is processed, which shall inform of this previously.

The purpose of the data collected shall be the promulgation of quality research, the creation of specialised work groups and the promotion of activities related to each Institute’s work, which can be shared between the different Institutes only if strictly necessary.

In order to exercise the right to access, rectify or delete any personal data, in compliance with the established legal norms, IMDEA places at the disposal of those affected the same temporary contact address, so that they will be able to exercise their inherent rights, provided that they send a letter setting out reasons, preferably registered, including the Institute in which they wish to exercise their rights, identification data, official identification document –National Identity Card or Passport - and an address for notification purposes.

Bearing in mind the international origin of Web site users, IMDEA offers them the possibility of writing to IMDEA regarding the treatment of dataand confidentiality, using the e-mail addresses that belong to each Institute, expressly writing “Data Protection” in the Subject line.

Moreover, to be removed from IMDEA’s electronic mailing list, IMDEA will place a simple and free mechanism at the disposal of the user so that he can easily unsubscribe from any such lists.

The present general terms and conditions shall prevail for as long as they are displayed. Therefore, IMDEA advises users to read them carefully each time they access the Web page.

We reserve the right to unilaterally modify the general conditions of the present privacy policy regarding the collection and treatment of your personal data at any moment, either totally or in part.

Any modification shall go into effect as soon as it is published on the Web Page, specifically, upon its insertion in the “Privacy Policy” link. In the event of a discrepancy between what is established in these general terms and conditions and the specific terms and conditions set out by certain services, the latter shall prevail.
