New members of the IMDEA Materials Institute team – January 2024

Every month, we welcome new members of the IMDEA Materials team. Here, you can find a short profile of our most recent additions, including their upcoming role with IMDEA Materials and their educational and professional background.
Felipe Lozano

My name is Felipe Lozano, I am from Santiago, Chile. I graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Santiago, Chile. I then pursued a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Santiago.

I have joined the Multifunctional Nanocomposites Group at IMDEA Materials as a Research Assistant / Predoctoral Research where I will be working in the field of mechanics of nanowire networks materials.

In my free time you can find me playing sports and spending time with my wife, cat and friends.

Dr. Alireza Rezaei

My name is Alireza Rezaei, and I am a metallurgist from Iran. I got my BSc at Shiraz University (Iran) and my MSc at Sharif University of Technology (Iran) both in Materials Science and Engineering.

For my PhD program, I was admitted to University of Tehran, Iran, in the field of Materials Science and Engineering working on the superplastic behavior, mechanical properties and microstructural features of a heat-resistant Mg-Gd-Y-Ag alloy processed by simple shear extrusion technique.

As a part of my PhD program, I spent a few months in École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland as a guest researcher to fulfill the goals of which had been set in my PhD thesis.

And now, as a post-doc researcher, I have joined Bio/Chemo/Mechanics of Materials group at IMDEA to sharpen my skills in advanced characterization techniques and new aspects of physical/mechanical metallurgy.

At IMDEA, I will be working on studying the micro-mechanisms of plastic deformation of metals in terms of slip or twining transfer at grain boundaries through incorporating advanced and in-situ characterization techniques.

In my leisure time, I enjoy taking a walk, sightseeing, reading and playing badminton.

Raúl Fernández

My name is Raúl Fernández Torres and I am from Madrid, Spain. I graduated in Industrial Engineering at the Carlos III University of Madrid.

I have joined the Multifunctional Nanocomposites Group at IMDEA Materials as a Junior Research Engineer where I will be working in “Si anode fabrication scale-up”.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my friends, going to the gym and playing sports like padel.

Enrique Dios Lázaro

My name is Enrique Dios and I am from Pontevedra, Spain. I graduated in Aerospace Engineering at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid last year, after defending my bachelor thesis on a hydrogen-air mixing device for zero-emission aircraft. As for now, I am studying a Master’s degree in Motorsports Engineering at the Motor & Sport Race Tech Institute.

At the same time, I have joined the Automated and Data-driven Nanocomposite Materials Discovery group at IMDEA Materials as an R&D Engineer and Predoctoral Researcher. In this position, I will be developing infrastructure for polymeric composites manufacturing and testing via robotic platforms, including 3D design and coding-related tasks. I completed my Research Initiation Fellowship in this same project during last summer and decided that I wanted to join again and continue working on it.

In my free time, you can find me hanging out with my friends, exercising, or learning about anything – engineering or not. I am most curious about aircraft and racing cars and my medium-term goal is to pursue a career in Fluid Mechanics, CFD and particularly Aerodynamics.

Nafiseh Mollaei

I am Nafiseh Mollaei and I am from Iran. I graduated in materials science and engineering and have worked as a research assistant on the development of mechanical properties of zinc alloys for biodegradable stent applications at the Iran University of Science and Technology.

I am pleased to join the Bio/Chemo/Mechanics of Materials group at IMDEA materials where I will be working in the field of additive manufacturing of biometals as a researcher

Dr. Sunan Tian
