Disculpa, pero esta entrada está disponible sólo en inglés estadounidense.

Would you like to become a researcher or a F1 racer? Whatever you choose, both are very interesting options. And they relly on each other so much that it is difficult to decide who is responsible for the successes and failures of a F1 team.

Which scientific advances have been passed on from a F1 to our daily-use cars, the airports, computers…? Have we faced the evolution or revolution of motoring?

Nine researchers from the IMDEA institutes responded to these and other questions on Friday September 26th in the Espacio Fundación Telefónica of Madrid, within the activity organized by the IMDEA institutes for the European Researchers’ Night in Madrid 2014.

The European Researchers' Night in Madrid 2014 is a joint action coordinated by the Community of Madrid through the madrimasd Foundation as part of the European programme Horizon 2020 and it is celebrated in more than 300 European cities simultaneously.

Your car and a F1 attracted over 250 attendees, filling the auditorium of Espacio Fundación Telefónica. They were all addressed by Raffaella Meffe, researcher of IMDEA Water; Guillermo Reglero, director and scientist of IMDEA Food; Enrique García-Quismondo, researcher of IMDEA Energy; José Manuel Torralba and Ignacio Martín Bragado, who also performed as masters of ceremonies, represented IMDEA Materials; Rodolfo Miranda, director and researcher of IMDEA Nanoscience; Domenico Giustiniano, scientist of IMDEA Networks; and Manuel Carro and Pavithra Prabhakar, researchers of IMDEA Software.

The researchers explained the audience how F1 race cars and racers are positively affected by diverse sciences such as those related to water, food, energy, materials, Nanoscience, networks and software; and that an important part of science and technology developed in the world of F1 is then transferred to daily-use cars, computers, batteries, etc. Enjoy some of the most interesting anecdotes in El curioso mundo del motor.
