Obama nominates Professor Subra Suresh, Trustee and Scientific Counselor of IMDEA Materials,
to lead NSF

It's official. President Barack Obama has chosen Massachusetts Institute of Technology Engineering (MIT) Dean Subra Suresh to be the next director of the National Science Foundation (NSF). Prof. Suresh is member of the Board of Trustees and Scientific Council of IMDEA Materials.

Researchers from IMDEA Materials and the Materials Science Department of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), members of the ESTRUMAT programme (Advanced Structural Materials), participate in the European project MAAXIMUS, which aims to develop new simulation techniques to design aircraft structures fabricated from composite materials.

Carlos Cabeza Barrantes, has been awarded with the FOINDESA 2010 prize for the best EUITA (UPM) bachelor thesis in the Equipments and Aerospace Materials specialty. The project “Nanoindentation for in-situ characterization of composites”, was carried out at IMDEA Materials facilities advised by the researchers M.Rodriguez and J.Molina within the framework of the collaboration agreement between EUITA and IMDEA Materials.

On November 11th, the kickoff meeting of the European project VACAST was held at IMDEA Materials facilities. The objective of the project is to develop the next generation of Ni-based superalloy nozzle guide vane (NGV) design and manufacturing capability for low pressure turbines of advanced aircraft engines. The consortium is lead by IMDEA Materials Institute and includes ITP, Precicast Bilbao, Calcom-ESI, University of Applied Sciences of Switwerland and Precicast Novazzano.
