The Board of Trustees of the IMDEA Materials Institute has appointed four prestigious international scientists as members of the Scientific Council

The Board of Trustees of the IMDEA Materials Institute approved, during its last meeting, held on November 19th, the appointment of four new scientists with a well-established international reputation in the research areas of the Institute, as members of the Scientific Council. The four scientists are Prof. Dr. John R. Willis from Cambridge University, Prof. Dr. Yiu-Wing Mai from the University of Sidney, Prof. Dr. William A. Curtin from Brown University and Prof. Dr. John E. Allison from the University of Michigan.

IMDEA Materials Institute sets up a GLEEBLE 3800 thermo-mechanical simulator at its Leganes site

This is the first facility of this kind to be installed in the Comunidad de Madrid and the third in the country. The system arrived in November 2010 to the Leganes facilities and will be fully operative by January 2011. It will open a full range of new opportunities for innovation in the field of processing of advanced metallic alloys. The GLEEBLE 3800, supplied by Dynamics Systems Inc., is a physical simulation system which performs laboratory scale simulation of casting, welding, diffusion bonding and hot deformation processing (rolling, forging, extrusion) of a wide range of metallic alloys (steels, Ni-based superalloys, Ti, Al and Mg alloys, etc), as well as their thermo-mechanical characterization.

Two Spanish researchers, in the front line of the metallic nanocomposites field

Dr. Jon M. Molina-Aldareguia, Senior Researcher of the IMDEA Materials Institute and member of the ESTRUMAT network, and Dr. Reyes Elizalde, Senior Researcher of the CEIT in San Sebastián, have been appointed as Invited Editors of a special issue of the Composites Science and Technology journal on metal matrix composites reinforced with nano-sized reinforcements (CST, vol 70, issue 16). Composites Science and Technology is one of the most relevant international journals in the area of Composite Materials (impact factor of 2.901)
