Friday 29 September, at the auditorium of the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid, researchers from the IMDEA Institutes will tell us which research lines and specific projects are being developed in their centres, directly linked to one of the 5 EU missions, whose common goal is to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.

The European Researchers’ Night in Madrid 2023, coordinated by the Fundación para el Conocimiento madrimasd, is an action framed in the Horizon Europe Programme. In Europe, more than 350 cities are joining the celebration.

Researchers at IMDEA Institutes, starting from very diverse scientific areas, they will show us that science is the Earth’s best ally, and they will give us concrete examples of how their work helps to achieve this common and very ambitious goal to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
And they will do so by focusing on the five missions that the European Union considers a priority: trying to slow down climate change, restore our oceans, obtain healthier food, win the fight against cancer or have smarter and more sustainable cities.
Each of them will provide their personal views on what we can do to help fulfill these missions and what they are doing in their laboratories.
With them, we will be able to see that meeting these great challenges requires the work of all of us. Also that to fight cancer or climate change, to obtain healthier food or restore our oceans, we need doctors, biochemists, biologists, engineers, data analysts, physicists, chemists… That new materials, at all scales, even at the nanometer scale, which we cannot see with the naked eye, are fundamental to help fulfill the five missions.
Our researchers will show us that software and communication networks are in practically everything around us, and that making them more efficient, secure and reliable is essential to reduce their costs and extend their benefits to the entire world population.
We will also be able to get to know the researchers themselves a little better. They will tell us how they came to Science and how they chose their respective areas of knowledge.
And above all, they will convince us that they work every day to make ours a planet with a great future, and that we can all do our bit to ensure a better future for all.
