Team up with science to help your city: Earth

February 14, 2023

IMDEA Institutes at the Madrid City & Science Biennial 2023

The seven IMDEA Institutes work in seven different scientific areas with a common goal: to improve everyone’s life. We would like to show you how we do it. Where? At Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid. When? From Wednesday 22nd of February to Saturday 25th of February.

The third edition of Bienal Ciudad y Ciencia will be held in Barcelona and Madrid from 21st to 26th of February 2023. We will discuss about what it means to live in this planet, in the city and how we can improve our coexistence.

Come and discover with all the researchers of IMDEA Water, IMDEA Software, IMDEA Food, IMDEA Networks, IMDEA Energy, IMDEA Nanoscience and IMDEA Materials the wonderful world of science and all the ways to help the Earth.

Since the earliest human settlements, water has been the key for the cities development and their evolution. Through IMDEA Water‘s research we will see how the urban habits influence in the hydrological cycle and thus the environment.

Have you ever heard about precision nutrition? IMDEA Food researchers will present different strategies in this matter to prevent and treat diseases. You will be able to attend to different workshops and interactive activities with the objective of improving society living conditions.

Researchers from IMDEA Energy will demonstrate that waste can have a second life. Practical and easy experiments will be carried out to raise awareness about the use of waste in the framework of a circular economy and share their work on the development of biofuels.

Have you ever wondered what the things around you are made of? How are created all the new materials for airplanes? How body implants are invented and developed? In the IMDEA Materials space you will be able to learn about the great world of materials, their amazing design process, how are they made of, how we evaluate them…

With IMDEA Nanoscience researchers you will discover a small world full of great ideas. When things get small they can behave in a very different way than expected. You will be able to verify that Nanoscience and Nanotechnology are behind many phenomenas and applications that surround us,

The growing number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices is changing our lives. However, their autonomy, sustainability and the need to eliminate part of their components negatively affect their deployment. Do you think an IoT without batteries is possible? Researchers at IMDEA Networks will show you that it is.

Finally, IMDEA Software researchers will show that software is everywhere! Games and fun activities will teach us how different types of software work. Also, you will learn how to create an algorithm, how to decipher secret messages and …

Come and meet us! And fill in the dots yourself.
